In a welcome development, Abia State Government, through its affiliated media platform @GreatAbia on X announced a new partnership between the state government and Coscharis Motors. This partnership, according to GreatAbia, entails the launch of electric vehicles into the transport sector of the South Eastern economy for intra city and state transport services.

According to the publication, quoting Governor Alex Otti on the decision to go electric, “our decision to go electric was a well-thought-out decision, we didn’t just jump into it, we looked at everything”. Not ignorant of the challenges inherent in going green, Abia State will be relying on the efficiency of Geometric Power, a private power generating company in the state.

With contracts awarded and ongoing work for the construction of two modern and befitting bus terminals in Aba and Umuahia coupled with the presence of Roxette, an electric vehicle company in the state, Abia State might be building out a mobility ecosystem. A partnership with Coscharis, a company with decades of experience in automobile sales and dealership, both entities stand to gain from this relationship.

Why This is Important

By going electric, Abia State is signaling to potential investors of its readiness for the future of mobility and with an abundance of human resources and creativity in the state, we should expect to see locally-built complementary services and technology as adoption takes off.

For a company like Roxette, consumer education and distrust will be reduced as electric means of mobility goes mainstream in the state. With ubiquity of this technology in Abia State, Roxette could use the state as a sandbox and testbed for its technology and subsequent models and innovations.
