The Lagos State Government through its Commissioner for Transport Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi has informed the general public of the deployment of intelligent transportation system in a bid to enhance road safety and traffic efficiency.

This was disclosed by the commissioner during a press briefing in Lagos last week. The Intelligent Transport System (ITS) has been deployed strategically in four locations within the state. He went further to explain the ITS sites are categorized into two functions; Checkpoint Sites for Speed Monitoring and E-Police Sites for Traffic Violation. This technological deployment is in collaboration with Huawei Technologies.

Alapere Ketu and Nitel area along Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way in Ikeja will have 80km/h and 60kn/h speed limits respectively for the Checkpoint Sites while the Allen Avenue junction and Nurudeen Olowopopo Road will host the the E-Police sites to monitor traffic violations such as running red lights, lane indiscipline, illegal U-turns and other minor traffic infractions.

Lagos State with the biggest transport budget in the country has in the recent past deployed Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) across the state in its efforts towards unmanned traffic management and control. The ANPR also supports law enforcement agents in fighting crimes carried out with vehicles like robbery and kidnap.
